The Legend of the Temple
According to Hindu mythology, Ravana, the king of Lanka, performed intense penance to please Lord Shiva. Shiva granted him a boon, giving him a Lingam to take back to Lanka, with the condition that it must not be placed on the ground anywhere in between. During his journey, Ravana had to relieve himself and asked a local cowherd (who was actually Lord Ganesha in disguise) to hold it. The Lingam was placed on the ground here, and it became firmly rooted. This very Lingam is worshipped today at Gola Gokaran Nath.
Fairs and Festivals
A grand fair is held every year during the month of Shravan (July-August) and on Maha Shivaratri. Lakhs of devotees from across Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states visit to offer water from the Gomti River to the Shiva Lingam. मंदिर की किंवदंती
हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, लंका के राजा रावण ने भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए घोर तपस्या की थी। शिव ने उन्हें एक वरदान दिया, उन्हें लंका वापस ले जाने के लिए एक शिवलिंग दिया, इस शर्त के साथ कि इसे बीच में कहीं भी जमीन पर नहीं रखा जाना चाहिए। अपनी यात्रा के दौरान, रावण को लघुशंका लगी और उसने एक स्थानीय चरवाहे (जो वास्तव में भेस में भगवान गणेश थे) को इसे पकड़ने के लिए कहा। शिवलिंग यहाँ जमीन पर रखा गया था, और यह मजबूती से स्थापित हो गया। इसी शिवलिंग की आज गोला गोकर्णनाथ में पूजा की जाती है।
मेले और त्यौहार
हर साल श्रावण (जुलाई-अगस्त) के महीने में और महा शिवरात्रि पर एक भव्य मेला आयोजित किया जाता है। उत्तर प्रदेश और पड़ोसी राज्यों के लाखों भक्त गोमती नदी से शिवलिंग पर जल चढ़ाने आते हैं। यदि आप लखीमपुर खीरी की आध्यात्मिक यात्रा की योजना बना रहे हैं, तो यह मंदिर अवश्य जाना चाहिए।
